Work Hard, Play Hard: Finding Balance as an Entrepreneur
Work-life balance; it’s a constant struggle, especially for entrepreneurs who wear so many hats. We’re running businesses, being spouses/partners, parents, and trying to squeeze in some quality time too. It’s a lot!
I know I’m not alone in this. I’ve definitely had my fair share of moments where I felt like I was juggling too much. I’ve learned the hard way that prioritising is key. You have to decide how much time you want to devote to each area of your life and put systems in place to make it happen. It’s about being intentional and making sure you’re not neglecting any part of your life.
I’ve found that having a release valve is essential. It’s that thing that helps you de-stress and recharge. For some people, it’s yoga, the gym, sports, mindfulness, or walking. For me, it was running. I’d leave work a little early and get out into the countryside. It was a great way to clear my head, get some exercise, and come home feeling refreshed. Eventually I entered the London Marathon and my best time was 2 hours, 45 minutes and 52 seconds!
Gina and Steve, two key members of the Let’s Rent team, find solace on the green. They’re both avid golfers, and their local club in Burstwick is their happy place. Gina, a 10.3 handicapper, and Steve, make it a point to hit the course whenever they can, especially when they’re not busy with work.
It’s so inspiring to see how they use golf as a way to unwind and clear their minds. It’s a great way to get some fresh air and exercise, connect with the outdoors and put things into perspective. Just a reminder that there’s more to life than the daily grind and it’s about taking a break, enjoying the moment, and appreciating the simple things.
I’m always looking for new ways to improve my work-life balance, and I’d love to hear how others do it. What are your tips for finding that sweet spot? What are your favourite ways to de-stress and recharge?
Often it’s just about setting boundaries. Schedule time for work and stick to it. Prioritise self-care and make sure you’re taking time for yourself, even if it’s just for 30 minutes a day.
Finding work-life balance is a journey, not a destination. But with the right strategies, you can achieve a healthy balance that allows you to thrive in both your personal and professional life.
